Of all the traits humankind is losing, the one that hurts the most to witness is the death of collective resourcefulness.
One of the better qualities of America has always been our willingness to tell our adversaries to go piss up a rope and figure out a way to circumvent whatever it is that’s trying to stop us from moving forward.
Americans are obnoxious, stubborn, violent, innovative and completely oblivious to most of the world around us. It’s what makes us excellent criminals and horrible bureaucrats.
Right now, I’m watching people beg for mercy towards bureaucracies that they’ve ignored selectively for at least two decades and decry the actions of a half-assed dictator who drinks Diet Coke.
There is way too much subconscious hope and faith in government, especially anything run at a federal level. Let’s just admit that it became a Too Big To Fail situation and dismantling it would be just as catastrophic as expanding it indiscriminately.
Btw, it’s completely ok to say “STFU Genya, you actually work for the government and are complicit in the sins of the system.”
I don’t perpetuate representative government because I believe in its virtues.
I perpetuate representative government because other people still believe in its virtues. And my job is to keep their belief in the system alive in spite of all the evidence to the contrary.
