I hope, as a PRC Chinese, that in the long run overseas Chinatowns can all disappear. It’s not something to be proud of.
Interesting to see this tweet got some attentions. So some clarification: by “not something to be proud of”, I was referring to the inter-civilization inequality between China and the West. Overseas Chinatowns can be seen as symbols of that past inequality. There you go.
It’s not accurate to describe such inequality as merely racism. Because racism is only a consequence of that inequality. Discussions centering around that phenomenon are therefore inherently superficial. I’m not gonna join in. For either side.
Despite countless other purposes, the core cause of the PRC itself is to end the centuries-old inter-civilization inequality between China and then more advanced parts of the world. We are now on the verge of decisively achieving this historical task. Hence “as PRC Chinese”.
