John 3:14-15 :

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

An OT mystery (Numbers 21) that's only explained in the NT

The symbolism in Numbers 21 is explicit proof of the Bible's transcendence of TIME.

During their desert wandering, God punished the Israelites because of their complaints by sending FIERY SERPENTS among them, biting and killing many of them.

Then...
Numbers 21:8

"And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live."
v 9: "And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived."

God did not explain the meaning of this symbolism to Moses, or indeed to anyone in the Old Testament.
Imagine looking upon an accursed image - the Serpent - for healing.

In fact, the item became an idol unto the Israelites many generations later - so King Hezekiah destroyed it (2 Kings 18)
The meaning of it goes unexplained until Christ connects the brazen serpent to HIMSELF, cryptically predicting His crucifixion - see first tweet. John 3:14

The fiery serpent on the pole, upon which men looked for healing = Christ on the cross, upon which we look for salvation.
2 Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

The serpent is a symbol of SIN. The meaning of the brazen serpent is explained in the New Testament.
The Torah, which includes Numbers and thus the account of the brazen serpent, was obviously long in use by the time Jesus walks the earth.

One of many "self-validations" God uses to authenticate His Scriptures, by surmounting the insurmountable barrier of TIME.
