Truth of the matter is that there are countless of people who work twice, thrice as hard as you but will never get the fruit of their labor simply because they don't have the same opportunities and connections.
I'm a "good student" because I've never had to worry about anything else other than studying. I didn't have to get an extra job to pay for tuition, skip meals to save on cash. Many others aren't as lucky.
So when they fail or fall short, does that make them less hard working than me? Less talented? God no! Who knows the heights so many of these individuals could have achieved if they'd gotten the support you and I did.
People like to throw around tales of rags to riches but fail to recognize that those are exceptions, not the rule. For every man that escapes povery, millions remain impoverished.
Yes, we've worked hard to earn our keep however to claim we did it all on our own; solely on merit alone, is a disserve to the many others who try so fucking hard every single day but will less likely reach the same level of success, if any,
because the status quo is rigged in favor of those who can afford a clearer path to success.
