What are the obstacles that prevent one from making repentance?

(I) Disregarding one's sins

Reasons why one may underestimate his sins:

- Weak understanding of Allah's Great Power and Lordship

- Being heedless of Allah and His Punishments

- Weak imaan (faith) and lack of taqwa (consciousness) of Allah

- Having a sick and corrupt heart

- Forgetting one's sins and lack of tawbah

(II) Having too many expectations

(Of this Dunya) such as thinking that you will live 'til your old, etc.

Make use of your time and do not procastinate.

(III) Always relying upon the mercy of Allah

Do not sin expecting Allah to forgive your sins whether you repent or not.

Because Allah says (43:55): "So when they angered Us, We punished and drowned them all."

(IV) Heedlessness

Being heedless of Allah and His Punishment

(V) Thinking that Allah won't accept his tawbah

Allah says in the Qur'an (39'53),

Say, "O My servants who have transgressed

against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

(VI) Thinking that one is saved due to his many deeds

There is no guarantee that Allah accepts your good deeds.

May Allah accept our tawbah, may Allah accept our good deeds and accept us into Jannah. آمين
