The accounting that'll be needed after Trump's time in office ends is going to be one of the most massive accountability undertakings in history. But I still worry that a future Democratic administration could say, "We won, let's focus on the future" & never fix what's broken. https://twitter.com/RepSwalwell/status/1294412030267588609
But here's the thing: It may be in the perceived political interest of Democrats in the short term to "move on" if they win in November (and are able to assume power after), but not in the interest of the future of American democracy. A lot is broken that must be fixed.
That's why the next admin must be held accountable & not allowed to just sweep the horrors of the past years under the rug (Russia, Ukraine, campaign finance violations thru hush money payments, babies in concentration camps, postal sabotage, playing politics with a pandemic...)
But after what we've witnessed, it'll be up to all of us as citizens (journalists, voters, institutionalists, activists, etc) across all partisan lines to hold their feet to the fire to make sure they don't just try to return to business as usual (it'll never last).
