Paying SWers is an act of community care.
A thread:
I believe in a concept of community and I don’t consider myself an individualist (not to be mistaken with the ability to be independent). We as humans need one another whether it be for care, touch, healing, sex, food - etc
I also grew up in a culture where you offer what you have to your community and the community offers back. It is a symbiotic relationship that naturally flows and a way we all care for one another.
That being said when you hire me I am offering something you desire, or even need. Often times on top of the sexual fantasy I’m offering care and genuine friendship while getting paid for my job is nice I also view it as a way you can extend care to me.
The payment you give keeps a roof over my head, food on the table, tuition paid, and health services paid for me as well. I then go out into my day job where I work with marginalized communities (for less pay than I deserve tbh) and I offer care to folks who need it most
Without the payment my SW clients offer I honestly would not be financially stable enough to do the other work I do. The services I offer in my vanilla career are often given to folks who can’t afford housing, are fleeing violence, or barely making ends meet.
Paying SWers shouldn’t be seen as a barrier to feeling like we care about clients, instead it should be viewed as an act of care.
A way to support us to make sure we are taken care of...the same way that the satisfaction, release, care, and laughter we offer you-keeps you going
