A thread: Stop being a slave to technology
Technology has improved our lives ten fold but also made us slaves to instant gratification...instant food...instant likes...instant tv.
This is something the human brain is not used to over the years we hunted all day just for some food and we did not have the ability to interact with millions online.
You experience the upside of technology all the time...you are right now sitting in your home with power reading this but there is downsides.
You have the urge to check your phone while driving...After a long day of work you want to turn Netflix on when you know there is better uses of your time.

You need to free yourself from the urges and stop the need for endless stimulation.
1. Right when you wake up. Do not check your phone. Make it a game to see how long you can go each morning without checking your phone. If you have an urgent text or call that is fine but
most of the time we wake up and go from app to app checking what happened overnight. Your ancestors used to check the crops each morning now you check snapchat, insta, twitter, and tik tok.
2. If you have a real problem. You should consider selling your tv, xbox, smartphone or whatever Is holding you hostage. Take a serious look at how much your playing and ask yourself “Is this _____ holding me back in achieving my goals?”
Moderation is fine but most addicts cannot get down to a level of moderation with the temptation in their exact environment.

Imagine if they had drugs in the rehab center cafeteria.
3. Turn off the constant stimulation. Music, audiobooks and podcast are not bad and can be beneficial if used correctly. The problem is your mind needs peace constant....background noise especially words will lead to more distraction in your life.
I hear all the time that the best ideas come in nature and in places like the shower. I don’t think its a coincidence that these places are some of the quietest in our daily lives.
I’m not telling you stop playing music at the gym or listening to audiobooks while walking but if you find yourself wanting to turn music on at every silent moment....think about what you are avoiding thinking about.
4. You most likely participate in intermittent fasting for your health. Why not try a digital fast? 24 hours once a week...maybe once a month..all up to you. Fast from non essential technology and be strict with the rules.
Your friends texting you on whats app is probably non essential. Dealing with customers is essential. Tv is not. Researching your essay is essential. You understand don’t lie to yourself.
If possible try to do a technology fast with no exceptions. @heydannymiranda did a great thread on his experiences doing this. Check it out!
5. Find what you really want in life and go after it. Often times we use technology as an outlet because we do not have a clear vision.
We figure it is easier to play a couple rounds of cod instead of figuring out what really drives us. Create huge goals therefore you are so enthralled you don’t have much time to sit around doing nothing. Each second counts.
Lastly, Watching tv, texting your friends, playing video games is not terrible but please be mindful of how much attention you are giving to certain activities and if they are keeping your potential limited.
