Why Armin is my favourite AoT character, a thread:
If Eren’s mantra is “because I was born into this world”, then Armin‘s must be “why was I born into this world?” His unyielding resolve to explore the world beyond the walls only underscores his existential doubt. Having been granted the power to transcend his physical weakness,-
The weight that Armin carries assumes a moral form. When he was a kid, he wondered “why am I so weak?” Now, he asks himself “how have I become such a monster?” To him, the grass was always greener on the other side, but this naive mentality can no longer stand the test of reality
This to the root cause of his unhappiness, this to the root cause of the growing divide between Armin and Eren: with the former coming to terms with his inability to atone for his sins and the latter running down a righteous path to hell, a decisive confrontation lies ahead
A lot of people love the dynamic between Eren and Reiner, but the dynamic between Armin and Eren is easily my favourite in AoT. Their ideals have diverged more and more over time, but the bond they share has yet to break; part of Armin still wants to give his friend a chance,-
Much like he still wants to give his idealistic childhood dream a chance
