Hear me out, my rewrite of the ending starting from here, please see below and indulge me:

Firstly, Rey DOESN’T die. Ben is a minute earlier climbing out from the pit, limping towards her. She turns to see him but collapses, he catches her as she goes down taking him with her, his injuries getting the better of him-

-but he still takes her weight and the impact of the fall (cos he’s a gentleman), she’s weak but alive & looks up at him from his arms, THIS is where we get the soft smiles, face touching and “..Ben..”, he smiles back at her and repeats her name-

-just as she passes out. Her ‘friends’ land on the surface and find Ben holding her and desperately looking for help. Differences and anger are cast aside, Finn helps him bring Rey onto the Falcon and patch himself up while Rey sleeps and recovers-

-during the trip back to Ajan Kloss. They are left alone to rest and recover, we get Ben holding her hand, cleaning her injuries and soft hair stroking. Mid-trip Rey wakes up to find Ben asleep next to her cot, she returns the hair stroking and he wakes-

-there’s more soft smiles, “you came back for me Ben” “I’m coming back, you’re my home, Rey” and THIS is where they kiss, mid-kiss they both wince and pull away because of injuries and softly laugh with foreheads pressed together-

-The Falcon lands and they are helped off the ship with obvious nerves from Ben, Rey squeezing his hand as the boarding ramp goes down. Not all Resistance members don’t recognise ‘Kylo Ren’ maskless, some do, other ask Rey “Who is he?”-

-to which she replies “Ben. Ben Solo” while looking him in the eyes with a smile and another hand squeeze. Fade to black. Slight montage of Ben settling in with Rey/resistance. Dealing with those wary of him, shyly accepting the friendship of-

-those less so (supportive pal Rose has entered the chat), smash cut to Ben doing that anxious/excited swaying on a balcony of Varykino, FG Leia is by his side, roasting him to calm down, stop sweating and squeezes his shoulder as Rey emerges in-

-her wedding gown, she giggles at Leia with Ben and casts her gaze over all her friends that have gathered. The SOFTEST of Reylo weddings commences and fades to black after their kiss, smiling into eachother’s lips. The final scene-

Ophelia style, Rey and Ben are sitting together in the fields of Naboo and the soft giggling of children pulls their attention. Their son and daughter are playing together, pulling rocks out of the lake with the Force, Ben gets up to go to them and-

-our final shot is Rey at peace, smiling and watching Ben with their children, the family, home and belonging she deserved.
