On Hindu temples of Indonesia. There are roughly 3 types of Hindu temples; Candi (ancient), the Javanese temples,
Pura, the Balinese Hindu temples & Kuil (Mandir), the Indian Hindu temples.
Candi temples: Prior to the rise of Islam, Hinduism was the majority in Java & Sumatra. Java valley had thousands of Hindu temples which were destroyed by massive volcanic eruption as well as Islamic spread circa 15th century.
Candi Prambanan.

Largest Hindu temples complex in Indonesia till date with 240 temples. The 3 central temples having carvings on its walls describing events from Ramayana.
Candi Ijo.

The main temple has square ground plan. Entrance into garbhagriha is located on West side.
Candi Barong.

The name barong came from it's Lala's head carving on top of the niches resembling Barong ( a panther like mythological character). Unlike other temples in central java, it took shape as a stepped terrace, an ancient design of Hindu sacred structure.
Candi Sambisari.

Located below ground level, it's a perfect square & most preserved Hindu temple in Java. The large Linga & Yoni inside the temple is made of andesite stone.
Candi Gebang.

The temple faces east with entrance located on the eastern side. There are 2 niches on each side of the portal which were decorated with statues of Nandiswara in the right side & statues of Mahakal in the left niches. Head of Nandiswara was stolen in 1989.
Candi Penataran.

Largest Hindu temple ruins in East Java. It is a shiva temple, notable for one of the largest collection of reliefs showing life events various avatars of Vishnu. Not only this, the site shows the Rama story of Javanese version of Ramayana.
Candi Kidal.

Hindu temple built under Singhsari dynasty. The temple is composed of three levels, at the foot of the temple, 3 Javanese mask depicts the Garuda story.
The temple was dedicated to Honor king Kertanegara, last king of Singhsari. The temple is tall & towering roof crowned with the combination pinnacle of cube & stupa.
A temple of the Majapahit kingdom. It is adorned with many reliefs extending around the building. Everything depicted in the reliefs have to do with the direction. On the base of the structure is 18 horizontal plaques, 8 vertical panles & the stairs have Naga Makaras.
Pura temples: After Islam toppled Hinduism in Java, the remnants of Hinduism confined in Bali. A pura, designed as an open air worship place within a compound. The design & structure follows a square layout.
Pura Besakih.

Most important, largest & holiest Hindu temple of bali. It consists of 23 temples that sit on parallel ridges. A series of lava eruption miraculously missed the temple by mere meters. Balinese hindus regarded this as signal from God.
Pura Kehen.

It was the royal temple of the Bangali kingdom, set on the foot of a wooded hill. It is divided into 3 areas, the outer sanctum, middle sanctum & inner or jero. A Padmasana lotus shrine is situated in this yard, dedicated to Hindu Trimurti of Brahma, Shiva & Vishnu.
Pura Tirta Empul.

A temple consisting peteertan or bathing structure, famous for holy spring water. The temple is divided into 3 sections; front yard,central yard & inner yard.

The temple is dedicated to Vishnu.
Pura Raman Saraswati.

As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to goddess Saraswati. Notable for its lotus pond, the temple is decorated with sculptures of Hindu mythological figures.
Kuil: There are numerous Indian style temples designed in Indonesia, mainly in Medan & Jakarta.
Sri Mariamman temple.

Oldest hindu temple in Medan, named after goddess Mariamman. On the front wall to the right there is a statue of Lakshmi. In the left there is a statue of Parvati. In the inner sanctum, there is statue of Murugan, Narayana, Vishnu, Agastya & more.
