I’ve spent quite some time on the phone today, and so has my staff, taking calls about concerns related to the USPS. Apparently, there is an article out there claiming that mail sorting machines are being removed from post offices.
While I don’t know the inner works of the USPS, I do know how hard elections officials around the country work to conduct elections in a fair and transparent way. Here’s some advice to concerned voters out there:
1. Not everything in social media is true, and not everything a source says has merit. There are thousands of post offices in the nation, if one or a few are changing equipment it means nothing. Heck, they may even be upgrading to better equipment to deal with November (we are).
2. If you're eligible, SEND IN YOUR REQUEST FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT NOW! Requests are queued and mailed massively starting in September. If you put in your request now your ballot is mailed in the first batch, at least 45 days before the election (more in some states).
3. If you have concerns, ASK YOUR LOCAL ELECTIONS OFFICIAL, they are the real source for information. Question anything you see and ask us, we’ll be able to give you accurate answers.
4. SIGN UP TO WORK IN THE ELECTION. A lot of poll workers are needed to run an election, both during Early Voting and Election Day. END OF THREAD.
