Lets talk the Say His Name trend involving the death of five year old Canon Hinnant, and how grown adults are using this child as a scapegoat to voice their concerns with the Black Live Matter movement.
If you don’t know, the person in this headline is Canon Hinnant, a five year old boy who was tragically murdered while riding his bike. This is undeniably a tragedy, and I think we can all agree that the death of someone so young is an almost unspeakable thing.
And while many of the tweets out there raising awareness for him agree on that sentiment, their reasons for bringing his story to light is less genuine. Apparently enraged at the lack of media coverage over the murder, the people of twitter got the hashtag SayHisName trending.
If you’re not aware, SayHisName is a phrase most commonly used to bring and spread awareness to black individuals who have been murdered at the hands of police or white supremacists over their race. It’s a staple of the Black Lives Matter movement, so to say.
