my two cents of pakistani patriotism that no one asked for:
being a muslim country, pakistani patriotism is tied to religious pride. this is why anybody going against the standards of religiosity set by the majority is seen to be a lesser citizen and therefore a lesser human.

that marriage of religion and state is extremely unsettling and dangerous and has bred years of hatred against religious minorities.
but missing both my lived experience and my loved ones in pakistan is not patriotism. and loving pakistan as a minority is not patriotism.

ahmadis aren’t just persecuted. we exist outside of our oppression as well. therefore i will always reject the notion that ahmadis should hate pakistan. that burden of choice between love and hatred for a country does not fall on the people that the country oppresses.
let the Sunni majority have that burden. you should hate your country for what it does to ahmadis. for what it does to shias and the uyghurs and the hindus and christians. take the religious minorities out of it. it’s not our responsibility.
all that just so i can blast milli naghmay today and not feel bad HA
