PRIORITY #1
If your state offers early in-person voting and you are healthy/careful enough to do so, VOTE EARLY IN-PERSON.
This is the best way to make sure your vote is banked while lessening the strain on the Post Office.
BONUS: You get to avoid Election Day crowds.

If you must get your ballot by mail and you need to request it, REQUEST YOUR BALLOT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (unless it's being sent automatically).
Do NOT wait to request it.
It might not be delivered to you in time for you to mail it back and have it be counted.

If your ballot is mailed to you, PERSONALLY DROP OFF THE COMPLETED BALLOT at your local Board of Elections, polling place, ballot dropbox, or whatever other option is available in your state/area.
BONUS: This helps the postal system AND gives you peace of mind.

Do NOT wait until the last minute. Do NOT let it sit on the kitchen counter. Do NOT let it get buried in junk mail.
Mail that ballot out ASAP.

However you vote - but especially if you're voting mail-in/absentee - FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND FILL OUT THE BALLOT CAREFULLY.
In particular, be mindful of any signature requirements.

Mailing your ballot? If possible, check tracking on your Board of Election site to verify that it’s been received.
Ballot not received by Election Day? Go to the polls & complete a provisional ballot.
