To sum up:

1. Several students went to College Dems with legit concerns re: Morse.

2. They sent a PRIVATE letter. Seems a DNC lawyer was involved, which is gross.

3. The letter was LEAKED. Chaos ensued.

3. Morse now admits he was wrong, says he’ll do better.

I hope he wins. https://twitter.com/alxthomp/status/1294323312865157120
I know many folks are angry with me for defending the college students. Please understand that I only was so forceful because many, many people acted like the power dynamics involved here were acceptable.

They’re not, and it has nothing to do with sexuality.
The fact that the DNC was involved is extremely troubling, but it doesn’t change that fact that Morse was wrong in some of his actions, and now that he’s addressed them and apologized, we can move on.

I apologize to anyone who in good faith thought I was trying to smear Morse.
I never said I wanted him to drop out or be cancelled; just be held accountable.

I was upset that many people were 1) defending actions that were indefensible, and 2) claiming the students were liars.

There’s foul play here, but that’s not the College Dems’ or students’ fault.
As it turns out, the students were correct. Morse says in his letter that he does regret some of his actions that made young queer students uncomfortable. They were NOT lying, their letter was NOT baseless, and anyone who said they were should now apologize.
Anyways. I really hope everyone involved with this can take a step back and acknowledge the reality of power dynamics, the danger of homophobic language, and better ways to include young queer people in political spaces.
