As far as I see, we have two issues at hand:
1. East Indian vs Afro Trini hate.
2. The 1%.
Indo vs Afro (correct me if I’m wrong) isn’t racism- that’s tribalism. Massa made us dislike each other. Unfortunately that’s been passed on to some even in our generation. Which is something we have to work on. Indo, Afro make up most of the population. We need to support eother
Ending Ramsarran based on one minor shareholder? Idk how I feel about it. Her getting kicked out inheritance was enough. We don’t know if the other shareholders share her beliefs (I’d guess her parents tho cause where she got it from? Lol).
I’d offer that this may teach other racist companies to learn to keep their racism quiet.
But ending the livelihood of the entire company when many of their workers are ethnic, especially in a time of COVID? That’s difficult. I know y’all think that was a win, but idk simply bc she is not the only shareholder and her beliefs may not be that of the entire fam.
2nd, as I stated, Ramsarran is not S*rian owned. The 1% doesn’t want anyone else to rise above caste. They were more than happy to remove Ramsarran from shelves. And pretend to be anti racist.
3rd Our real problem is the 1%. They were bold enough to state it on Anthony Bourdain. They feel untouchable. Which to a large extent is true. They provide many of us with jobs. They run a large part of the economy. They’ve made us dependent upon them.
If we remove all their businesses and are left with small businesses who aren’t prepared to expand, what will happen?
They know where they are on the chess board. So they continue on.
Being woke, anti racist, feeling like we’re doing something is one thing but at depth level, what have we really accomplished? We’re a generation of change but we still have that very issue that I mentioned above. We are dependent on their businesses and many lose jobs.
And yes, we want to support ethnic businesses and those who lose jobs can transfer there but those small businesses won’t be prepared to take that unemployment load.
At a micro level we can educate our friends, share love and unity across all ethnicities, we can boycott businesses but it comes with major repercussions for our people, our labour force that we are trying to uplift.
So this is my food for thought. What can we really do? Because G*rald A*oud, D*anne Et al still thriving. And our dependency on them for economic revenue + jobs poses a hinderance. Anyways, I’m open to convo and education 🤗 I’m not deep in economic and politics. Teach me, share.
