In 2008 Kamala Harris opposed Proposition K, a San Francisco ballot measure brought by sex workers to end prostitution arrests in the city.

She said: “It would put a welcome mat out for pimps and prostitutes to come on into San Francisco.”
She remains unapologetic about her role in shutting down Backpage, which left sex workers more marginalized and vulnerable.

She still supports criminalizing the purchase of sex, leaving sex work penalized and surveiled by police.
