I pay $270 out of pocket for blue cross health insurance. I was working two jobs up until covid, but still didn’t qualify for health insurance because 1 of them didn’t offer it and the other I wasn’t scheduled enough hours- which is why I needed a second job.
our system is so fucked up. Saying that I am less deserving of coverage because I don’t have one full time job? Like, my health is less important because one of my jobs didn’t even offer insurance and the other was not giving me minimum hours?
So now I need to go back on my pill after taking a four month hiatus because I wanted to give my body a hormone break and I wasn’t hooking up with anyone during covid. I try and do this once every couple years to give my body a reset on the hormones.
So I call cvs to get a refill. They say my insurance doesn’t cover it. I say that makes no sense I have had this specific insurance for two years and it’s a generic brand. (Generic brands are cheaper than name brand meds, which again in itself is so fucked)
I call Blue Cross. The woman is confused as to why it’s not covered anymore since it’s “just birth control” and it should be covered (no fucking shit lady). She says she’s calling the pharmacy division. Then she calls back and tells me....
THAT I NEED TO CALL MY DOCTOR AND FIGURE OUT NOT ONLY A NEW PILL THAT WORKS FOR ME BUT THAT THEY COVER!!! Birth control is not like Xanax, every pill is different and every one is tailored to each person and the only way to figure this out is trial and error.
I want to throw my phone against the wall. I’m so over this shit. There are other resources like Planned Parenthood (thank god) for those without insurance. However, the wait is like the fucking DMV. And for someone who works five days a week this isn’t easy.
What about those women with no car? Or who have kids and can’t find childcare while they go to their appointment? Or who work three jobs they barely have time to sleep? WHY IS COVERAGE ON WOMEN’S HEALTH ISSUES SO DIFFICULT!?!?
And why the fuck did you pull coverage on my pill?! And then NOT FUCKING TELL ME ABOUT IT?! I don’t pay $270 for you to tell me I need to find a list of meds you cover to then give to my dr. What the fuck am I paying you for???
I’m so over this shit. This system is so broken and run by greedy ass fucks. If you don’t believe in universal healthcare you have never once lost coverage or had to pay out of pocket for coverage and/or medication.
