thread of h&l’s song/lyric parallels ೃ࿔₊•
this thread is gonna be common themes that h&l both use in their songwriting, and each song that mentions that theme (this only includes songs they wrote, not songs that were written for them)
[theme: beds/sleeping together]
[theme: relationship doubt]
this theme doesn’t make sense for a straight white couple (i.e. why would someone doubt them? or criticise them? why would a “love like that” never last?) and we CAN see el & lou now so why say “wonder what they’d think if they could see us now?”
[theme: feeling hidden/controlled]
[theme: young love]
[theme: tattoos/their tattoos]
[theme: home/home as a person]
home and if i could fly were also written at the same time and are parallels/responses to each other on their own
[theme: leaving/being left]
[theme: a long-term relationship]
another theme that wouldn’t make sense for their public relationships, especially the whole “you’re all i’ve ever known” concept
[theme: communication problems]
there’s so many of these holy fuck they need to work on that
[theme(s): love as a painkiller & overcoming obstacles]
[theme: kitchen/kitchen table]
there’s tons more examples of h&l writing about extremely similar concepts in their songs and its 100% clear for many of these songs that the themes, ideas, and experiences they’re writing about are shared.
they’re writing on common experience because it’s THEIR experience in a relationship, these themes and ideas match up to things we know about them (i.e. being hidden, being doubted, falling in love young, being together for a long time) which are things that don’t +
make sense for the public relationships they’ve been in. a lot of their songs even seem to line up completely in storyline as if they’re writing responses to each other, here’s more examples (not my pics)
also here’s my thread on golden/ready to run but this is definitely not the only other example https://twitter.com/onlythefond/status/1293598448869048321
overall hs1 was definitely h’s heartbreak album, and walls was the response. walls even released the day before h’s birthday and ON his birthday in some timezones
obviously they’ve been through a lot, are a little ripped at the seams, but they’re doing better now and they’ll [be alright] like they said. they’ve [come too far] to say otherwise
and lastly, if you think any of this is a reach in the slightest, i urge you to find me the same amount of direct connection in ANY of the other boys’ songs on /this/ level. it just can’t be done. your move, anti’s
