We got notice on Aug 5th that our school was moving to a blended 2 day in school, 3 day at home learning system. Opposed to the 5 day in school as before.
Our son is going into 1st grade learning to read. This at home learning did not work well for him at the end of last year.

With some other districts surrounding us doing full 5 days a week. I thought to myself, Its time to act! I knew I wasn& #39;t the only one with these feelings.
I quickly created a petition on http://change.org"> http://change.org and shared it on the school districts Twitter post.

Not being on Facebook anymore, I encouraged my wife to make a FB Group and start recruiting for the cause.
This was all new to us. But we knew we had to do something!
She got the conversation going on the group as I was writing a compelling petition.

My wife had found a woman who& #39;s video went viral about this issue.
I asked my wife to reach out to her and bring her into the group as an admin.

She accepted! We also brought on another admin to the group that had previously worked in the news business.
She was a big help in managing the group and sticking to the facts.

2 days before the protest date was set we did a zoom call with the other admins about a game plan.
We decided setting up in the green space on a major road would get us the most publicity.

The day before the protest I contacted 3 local news outlets myself.

On protest day we had it set up from 3pm to 7pm. That way people who worked could attend. Also it made for heavier traffic/exposure.

We believe that now that the city is aware of our stance, we will have better attendance at the board meeting.

FYI- Covid19 cases in my county are not very high. My argument is why let bars and daycare& #39;s stay open but not schools? I believe teachers are essential too!
