Thread: Care has traditionally not been a political issue
Now it has to remain at the front of any political discussion for progress to be made on issues of social policy - justice, education, housing, health, employment.
Once the child enters care the state is the quasi-parent.
This makes the First Minister the (corporate) parent. Hence the phrase chief-mammy or dad. It is vital all people & politicians realise that the outcomes care experienced people achieve are the ultimate responsibility of the 'chief-parent'
We gauge how well a chief-mammy is doing by the laws/policies they are implementing to ensure their children thrive. The indicator is how well the entirety of the care experienced population are doing.
The reason the care community want Chief-mammy to be sacrosanct to them is to make sure the chief-mammy delivers.

NB I've always thought this makes the Queen the Chief-Granny...
Today @agcolehamilton was magnanimous enough to apologise as he had misappropriated the term chief-mammy from the care exp community. He had a constructive & friendly chat with members of the care community, he listened and they shared aspirations. Thanks for doing this Alex
It matters that ALL politicians engage with the care experienced population. I've seen politicians from every layer and level of all parties engage. They often reflect that it reminds them why they got into politics.
If any other politician or anyone wants to know more about care or how to influence social policy, or meet some of the best young people in the country 😉. Then please do get in touch with @whocaresscot. I promise you it'll be worth it.
