There's an purportedly Christian argument I keep hearing about trans people that we ought to just accept the body God gave us. I think body positivity is a beautiful thing.

But in this case, it's the same case made by Christian anti-vaccination societies in the late 1700's...
They published tracts that said "So if God created you with a body that's susceptible to smallpox, it would be sinful to annul the divine will by the trick of inoculation."

You're fearfully & wonderfully made, folks, right down to your immune systems. So don't tinker with 'em...
Yeah, never mind that we live in a world where congenital heart defects can be fixed w/mechanical valves. A world where, if you live 85 yrs but the hip God gave you is only good for 60 yrs, you don't just have to accept immobility for the rest of your life. You see a surgeon...
Never mind that organ transplants are a thing. Never mind that we modify our bodies with the aid of ophthalmology and orthodontics and prostheses. Never mind that we constantly modify our bodies with piercings, dyes, cosmetics and creams...
Never mind all that stuff...stuff I believe stands as a powerful refutation of what I believe is a tired and misleading argument...an argument that trades in breathtaking ignorance about what it's actually like to transition...
But seriously, how does the "accept your body as-is" argument work, when it's so often made by folks from a religious tradition that holds up body modification as an enduring sign of the special relationship between God and humankind?
You're fearfully and wonderfully made, guys.
