#THREAD :15th aug,1985 is a important date for the people of Assam. In 1979 All Assam Student Union started a agitation to identify and deport all the illegal immigrants (predominantly from Bangladesh), where all section of society took part.

After 6 yr of agitation led by AASU the Assam Accord was signed in 15th August 1985. The Assam Accord was a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between representatives of the GoI and the leaders of the Assam Movement .

The leaders of Assam Movements agreed to accept all migrants who entered into Assam prior to Jan 1,1966, and GoI acknowledge the political,social,cultural and economic concerns of ppl of assam and agreed to revise the electoral database based on that date.

Further govt agreed to identify and deport any and all refugees and migrants after March 25th,1971. NRC is a step regarding that promise.

The accord brought an end to the Assam Movement and paved a way for the leaders of the movement to form a political party(AGP was formed after that) and form govt. soon after.

3. Biraj Kumar Sarma, General Secratay of All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad

Various Clauses of the Accord...
Clause 5 of the accord deals with the Foreigner Issue.
Clause 6 of the accord deals with giving Constitutional, Legislative & Administrative safeguards to the Assamese People.
Clause 7 deals with Economic Development
Clause 9 deals with Security of International Border.

Clause 10 deals with Prevention of Encroachment of Government lands.

Clause 11deals with Restricting acquisition of immovable property by foreigners.
etc etc.
After 35 years we are still waiting for Implementation of Various Clauses of the Accord. Like Clause 6.
