Here's the silver lining. The #constitution saves the day. In the case of a tie or <50% for a candidate, the #HouseofRepresentatives, by ballot, elects the president. Const. Art. III, sec.1, clause 3. Zero ballots = less than 50%. But that would be a tie 0 to 0.

A tie has happened. In 1800, #Burr and #Jefferson tied at 73 electors each. In that case the #House elected the pres. But the House also tied; it took 6 days, much wrangling and 36 ballots before Jefferson won. In 1804 const. amended to require separate House vote for VP. /5

What if objections are raised to the validity if the election? Guaranteed in 2020. In 1876 #Republicans objected to the state-certified electors. Again House had to resolve. #Congress created #FederalElectionCommission to resolve dispute January 1877. Party-line vote = #Hayes. /6
