I had a dust-up with a self-styled voting rights group the other day, the @nvc2020 .
You can read it here:
They blocked me, of course, because they are "non-partisan", i.e., Leftist. https://twitter.com/Gitabushi/status/1291443950423879680
I was reminded of that by this tweet: https://twitter.com/RightAllTheTime/status/1294274900270735361
Take any system that requires membership or permission to participate.
That can be computer account access, building access, or something like voting, that requires citizenship.

Any system: you have to balance between security and access.
If the security is too loose, people who shouldn't have rights/access can get it in.
If the security is too tight, even legitimate authorized users can't get access.
The Left, US Democrats and Progressives in this case, think the ultimate failure of any voting system is that someone who wants to vote isn't able to.

The Right, US GOP and conservatives, in contrast, think the ultimate failure is that a legal vote is erased by a fraudulent one.
Digression: This is likely because the Left fetishizes vote totals, rather than the actual will of the voter.

It is impossible to divine the will of the voter by a vote. A vote is giving a representative carte blanche to make decisions on your behalf. A mandate, if you will.
This plays into the whole Leftist system: they promise certain things, then if they win office, the Hard Left protests something, and the Democrats regretfully have to enact something they never promised to do, or even promised not to do, because look at the protesters!
Since they don't care about the actual will of the voters, they fetishize the vote total. That means they want to loosen the security as much as possible. They want people who vote without information, so push for early voting and mail-in voting.
They want 16 year olds voting, and 14 year olds, if they can, who, lacking the experience to realize how life really works, can be persuaded by empty slogans and promises of good intent.
They want non-citizens to vote, if they'll vote for Democrats.
They want to expand the franchise to any and all who will vote based on identity or branding or coolness or virtue signalling. ANYTHING except the voter who carefully weighs the issues and information and votes for the candidate who works for the long-term good of the nation.
So, back to the point: as I said, the Left wants to reduce security.
The worst failure is if someone had some vague intent to vote and didn't accomplish it, for whatever reason.
They want to make it easier for that person to accomplish it. No barriers of any kind.
what if you forget your ID? block requirements for ID.
what if you forgot to register? ensure same day registration
what if you aren't a citizen? register voters when they get a license, forbid license officials to ask if you are a citizen
In contrast, the Right wants some barriers.

And here's why:
If you aren't a citizen, and so can't vote, Too bad. Want to vote? become a citizen.
Forgot your ID, and so can't vote? too bad. Remember it next time. Or drive home and get it. Want to avoid possible mistakes? vote earlier in the day.
What if the lines are long? start earlier
Don't have an ID? Start thinking about it at least a month before the election, and get an ID. There are people and organizations to help you.

You have to think and plan ahead. You have to think about the election.
Hopefully, if you are thinking and planning ahead, you are thinking about the election, and will make a more informed decision.
Maybe not, but it increases the chance.
but if you can't be bothered to talk to your boss to arrange to go vote early in the day, if you can't be bothered to remember your ID, if you can't be bothered to even *get* an id, then your vote isn't your voice, it isn't your considered opinion, it's a whim.
It doesn't assist in democracy at all.
At most, it gives one of the parties a proxy for you. It is abandoning your agency and giving one of the parties power to decide for you, in disregard of your considered opinion.

(and guess which party usually benefits from that?)
So if barriers make it harder to vote, there is something you *can* do: try a little harder, make a little more effort, think about it earlier, make some arrangements.

It's possible to overcome barriers.
But if I am a legal voter, I take the time to arrange to come to work late so I can vote, I make sure I bring my ID with me, I've considered the issues and am voting with intent to have a person represent me, and my vote is erased by a fraudulent one, I can do nothing to fix it.
Both principles are understandable. Both represent some potential injustice. At face value, a vote lost due to barriers is equally as bad as a vote erased due to fraud.
The legal voter nullified by fraud. has followed ALL the rules, acted in good faith, and had their vote erased by something completely out of their control.

The legal voter stymied by a barrier, in contrast, just didn't put in enough effort or planning.
The illegal voter stymied by a barrier is what we *want*!

But "non-partisan" groups like @NVC2020 see an illegal voter stymied by a barrier as equally bad as a legal voter stymied by a barrier.
And then turn around and say vote fraud isn't significant enough to impact elections.
I insist that even one vote by someone making a good faith effort sufficient to overcome barriers that is erased by a fraudulent vote is an outrage, but one vote unsuccessfully accomplished by someone who doesn't follow clear and easy instructions is sad, but not a tragedy.
On the other hand, we should not have poll tests or poll taxes.
We should not put barriers in place that even a good faith effort cannot overcome.
The right for citizens to use their vote to provide feedback to government is vital and should not be blocked.

But neither should it be erased by fraud.
We have plenty of laws in place to prevent unlawful blocking of legal, valid votes. We should NOT make voting easier.
Voting should take effort.
But at the current time, some forms of fraud (like ballot harvesting) are legal in some locations. Other forms of fraud are not detectable under current laws (as Democrats are fully cognizent) https://video.foxnews.com/v/1926117285001#sp=show-clips
Democrats actively fight to not follow laws that prevent vote fraud, sue to avoid cleaning voter rolls of dead people and expired residences.
Democrats encourage people to vote twice.

Mail-in voting, absentee voting, and anything except for Same Day, In Person voting help fraud.
We need to True the Vote.
We need to simultaneously enhance efforts to help legal voters consider their vote and cast it according to their intent.
We can do both. We must do both.
We must reject those sophists that only care about expanding the franchise.
