To commemorate the 73rd year of the Partition of India, Everyday Muslim will be posting a series of posts to highlight the complex, tragic and a very personal family story of the 1947 Partition, that not only physically divided a country but,
separated family, friends, neighbours and took the lives of up to 2 million men, women and children. The history of partition is not that of which applies solely to the generation that lived through it, but in reality, transcends subsequent generations.
This series aims to highlight the history behind the events and support the many projects that are striving to preserve this history through personal accounts. We also want to support the representation of a history that is otherwise absent from mainstream British history
teaching, in particular, the school curriculum.
The story of partition is a significant part of British history as not only did it create two independent countries (Pakistan and Bangladesh), but also marked the dissolution of an almost 200-year reign of British rule over India.
