⚠️TW // Female Genital Mutilation⚠️

An important thread:
FGM is any procedure involving parcial or total removal of the external female genitalia. More than 200 million girls and women alive have undergone FGM. The practice is found in Asia, Africa and Middle East, and within communities from countries in which FGM is common. +
Fortunately, this year Sudan criminalized FMG.
There are 4 types of FGM:

Type I as known as clitoridectomy;
Type II as known as excision;
Type III as known as infibulation;
Type IV is any other harmful procedure for non-medical purposes to the female genitalia.
-Type I:
Clitoridectomy involves partial or total removal of the clitoris and/or prepuce. This is the most common form of FGM.
-Type II:
Excision is the parcial or total removal of the clitoris and the inner labia, with or without removing the labia minora.
-Type III:
Infibulation involves the almost complete closure of the vaginal orifice, a small opening remains for the passage of menstrual blood and urine. It's believed by practitioners to show that women are sexually inactive, infibulated women are cut open on the first night+
of marriage and before childbirth. This practice is found mainly in northeast Africa, particularly in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia.
-Type IV
For example pricking, piercing, incising, scraping and cauterization
Constant pain, difficulty and pain having sex, infections (which can lead to infertility), bleeding, cysts and abscesses, problems urinating or holding it incontinence and problems during labor and childbirth are the effects of FGM.
It also affects mental health by+
causing depression, anxiety, flashbacks to the time of the procedure and nightmares or other sleep problems.
I read this thread in Portuguese so I thought it would be good to make a similar thread in English to bring more awareness. I decided to talk about FGM instead of just infibulation.
Twitter translation is pretty good so please read it, it's worth it. https://twitter.com/sweetlucifer_/status/1293690700165455881?s=19
