Can we please stop being silent about what’s happening in my country. Every 3 hours a woman is murdered and raped but nothing is happening to stop it. Femicide in my country has lead to the women of south Africa living in fear and people still have the audacity to joke about it.
I go out with family and friends only to feel unsafe,cat called and body shamed. I wake up everyday wondering if it will be my last all becasue im a young woman in South Africa. I’m sick of living in fear and we need to make a change.
Just last month an innocent 7 year old girl and her sister were raped and murdered. In the last 4 days 30 women have been murdered. Since women’s day over 1000 South African women have been murdered and abused.
An average of nearly 58 people are murdered every day, according to the latest statistics from the South African Police Service. A woman is murdered every three hours, and according to our president, on Sunday, 51 percent of South African women have experienced violence-
at the hands of someone with whom they are in a relationship. Gender based violence can not be ignored. It’s not even a state of emergency in South Africa.
For the women of my country please share this as much as you can. Innocent lives are being lost because people are choosing to stay silent.
