I think Drake is a great case study in how hard it is to make a single. The thing with Drake’s album singles are that they’re actually pop tracks and not representative of the album. So he ends up getting criticized as a pop rapper (which he probs is). But... /1

Making a single for your hardcore fans don’t make sense. Some artists just focus on creating music for their core audience but drake seems to focus his singles on going as wide as possible...the drawback here is the quality’s lower than other tracks.

Probably important to note that drake mitigates this by putting out mixtapes and random singles and freestyles for his hardcore fans that usually fucking slap
