I, a sentient institutional structure, am biased, but studying a humanities subject is fab! Taking a passionate deep dive into cultures, literatures, histories, languages, into the global world around you & into the human condition is challenging, fulfilling & exciting.

1/
Plus, as well as developing a body of knowledge about your particular area of study, you ALSO develop fantastic transferable skills which will be VITAL for your later career.

2/
Studying on a humanities degree will help you develop strong critical and research skills (in constructing arguments and responses and in understanding complex materials). Plus you’ll improve your team-work, time management, confidence and planning.

3/
In the 2018 Future Skills Report, the top 4 skills needed "for all occupations” were active listening, speaking, critical thinking, & reading comprehension. The top 10 is rounded out w/social perceptiveness, time management, judgement & decision making, & active learning.

4/
Those are EXACTLY the kind of skills you’d learn on a humanities degree! Especially on OUR humanities degrees!

And so here’s a thread detailing all the amazing BA programmes we offer: https://bit.ly/2DRcxUi , go check it out! 😘

5/
In May, the @BritishAcademy_ published a report, ‘Qualified for the Future: Quantifying demand for arts, humanities and social science skills’, which laid out, in more detail, just why humanities graduates are so fabulous.

6/
That report prompted The Times to say “Arts, humanities and social science graduates are more in demand than science graduates in eight of the UK’s ten fastest-growing sectors of the economy, a study has found.”

🔥🔥🔥

7/
Adding “Those who take subjects such as history, law and drama are just as likely to be in work as their chemistry, maths or engineering counterparts [...] & are just as resilient to economic downturns. There is also little difference in earnings.” ( https://bit.ly/3kO5MUe )

8/
In response to the BA report Hetan Shah, Chief Executive of the British Academy, said: “The evidence speaks for itself: arts, humanities and social science graduates are as employable as any other graduates and fare particularly well in times of economic decline.”

9/
Shah goes on to add “We are increasingly living in a knowledge-based, creative and services economy. Arts, humanities and social science subjects are giving students the skills they need for the future marketplace."

10/
And Shah concludes, "These graduates’ flexible, adaptable skills make them extremely resilient in the face of downturns and well-equipped to adapt to the technological changes in the job market.”

11/
Professor Sir Ian Diamond FBA FRSE FAcSS, Chair of the British Academy Skills Programme, underlines that the report shows humanities graduates “enjoy strong employment prospects, with competitive wages and a wide variety of career options."

12/
“They also underpin some of the fastest growing sectors of the UK economy working in tandem with our outstanding STEM graduates." #Teamwork!

13/
Sir Diamond concludes, "At a time when many jobs are likely to change or even be lost through automation, the skills gained through arts, humanities and social science degrees are evidently more useful than ever and are central to addressing global challenges.”

14/
