Thread explaining how Beyoncé is one of the ever technical vocalists of all time -
In this thread I’m gonna go over all parts of her voice and then extras such as breath control, dynamics, runs, etc
Beyoncé is a Coloratura Mezzo-Soprano with a range of F2-G#5-F6. This means, as a woman, her voice is agile but deep, but with a distinct feminine tone. Her tone is deep and rich and has aged like a fine wine throughout her career, deepening across the decades.
Low Notes - Beyoncé’s low notes are smokey and robust, with a dark clarity to them. They extend into the 2nd octave, down to F2, and support can be seen consistently down to B2. It is clearly very developed.

Songs that show this - OTHERSIDE, Forward, Heaven
Mid-belts - Beyoncé’s mid-belts are equally as robust, with a sparkling clarity and a large amount of power despite the medium volume output. This is thanks to her consistent support and ringing resonance throughout her whole voice

Songs that show this - Listen, BIGGER, Halo
Upper-Belts - Beyoncé’s upper belts are sublime, rivalling Sopranos with higher voices. She supports up to F#5 with her signature consistent resonance. Her supported range is unrivalled by any Mezzo or Soprano

Songs that show this - Love On Top, I Care, Listen
Head Voice - Arguably the best part of Beyoncé’s voice, this has an operatic ring in its resonance and support extends to E6. It is incredibly strong with a rolling vibrato.

Songs that show this - Drunk In Love (intro), I Care (Live), XO
Breath control - There is no doubt Beyoncé has some of the best breath control in the industry. Nobody else sings and dances with the same expertise and vigour that she does. She makes everything look easy, never seeming out of breath despite the laborious performances.
Volume control - Beyoncé is a master of volume control, executing complicated techniques such as Messa Di Voce, growing louder then quieter and back in one breath. Her mic technique shows her control too, the mic being far away but the noise consistent (Resentment, OTR2).
Melisma - Beyoncé, as a coloratura, has an incredibly agile voice, having the ability to execute runs and riffs with such precision and speed that it’s only rivalled by the likes of Mariah Carey and Tori Kelly. Runs such as those on Halo, Ego and Countdown display this.
Tone and texture - Beyoncé is easily able to play around with her sound, her solid tone and technique allowing her to layer aspects like growl and wails onto her voice. She can change her resonance too e.g her operatic head voice can be changed to pure head voice or nasal.
Overall - Just because Beyoncé isn’t known for her voice like others of her caliber (Whitney, Mariah) doesn’t mean she is inferior. Her technique is truly unparalleled.
