There's a lot to say about this mini-controversy. The first thing is: The common critique is DSA is "singling out" Israel. No, the "singling out" goes the other way. What country is the top destination for NYC politicians? Israel. Not Syria. Not Cuba. https://twitter.com/ZackFinkNews/status/1294054891464413187
Then, there's this fact: Palestinians have specifically called for BDS. The left in America has long viewed Palestine as an anti-colonial lodestar (and no, it's not b/c anti-semitism). It's not surprising the most prominent left-wing group today would endorse BDS and ask this.
The DSA is asking candidates these questions to see if they line up with the DSA's political priorities. The DSA also asks about police funding and a host of other issues. If BDS is a political priority, you're going to ask candidates seeking your endorsement about it!
And another important point. A lot of bad-faith critics like to whine: "Why does Israel get so much attention?" My rejoinder: Name another country that gets $3.8 billion in US taxpayer dollars every year and uses that $ to occupy another people, to bomb them, to besiege them.
All of the journalists and pundits are missing the actual story here. But anyway, I will write that story so I won't give it all away.
In sum: DSA is making Israel lobby junkets to Israel an issue because NYC POLITICOS AND THE ISRAEL LOBBY MADE THEM AN ISSUE.
