Hey guys’! Our family is ready to grow a little bigger! We are looking for more foster pigs!! We’re so proud of our 3 rescues and we miss all our old fosters, but we’re happy to see them in new loving homes! We get so much gratification from rescuing, fostering, and finding them
Forever homes! It really gives us purpose in life! Our cage is already adequate for atleast one more but we’re expanding to hold several more. If you or someone you know has a guinea pig that isn’t getting the attention it deserves or simply can’t be taken care of correctly,
Please please please DM me. If it’s someone you know, and you think they might want to hold onto the pig, I can talk to them! I’m pretty much a full on expert now! Guineas need to live in groups of2-3 or more, unlimited fresh hay all day, unlimited pellets, fresh daily veggies
They need their nails clipped once every couple of weeks, their cage needs to be at least 10.5 square feet large for 2 pigs, and it needs to be cleaned once a week at the least for 2 pigs. If you have more than that then 2-3 times a week minimum. No petco and petsmart
Do not sell adequate caging. Not for any of the small animals they sell. Not the birds. Not the mice or hamsters. Do your research! The best thing they have for Syrian hamsters is 50 gallon tanks which they do not recommend bc they make more selling gimmick cages!
So if your pig is in a petco cage or any pet store cage I guarantee you that they are suffering horrible. And those cages need to be cleaned every day if used even for short period of time. It’s illegal in Switzerland to keep guinea pigs alone because they’re such
Social animals that it literally slowly kills them from depression to be alone. So if you or someone you know is housing one alone dm me immediately! Long haired pigs need frequent hair cuts and grooming. Daily brushing and baths several times a year if not more.
Guinea pigs are not starter pets or pets meant for children. They are very high maintenance. And they are expensive. You need to take them to the vet at least once a year which can be several hundred dollars. As well as at home health checks. Weight checks. Genital checks.
The list goes on and on and on. They need daily floor time every day for at the very least an hour. They need you to interact with them and hold them daily to become tamed. The cost of daily fresh veggies adds up fast as well as unlimited hay and pellets.
They don’t get vitamin c in their diet unless you feed lots of peppers and that’s still not quite enough. Petco sells water drops which are actually not adequate. They need pricey children’s vitamin c serum that’s 20 bucks a bottle for maybe a months worth.
They can’t be kept outside or in a garage. It will kill them. They need 1 hide per pig. They need toys, stimulation, play time, socialization. They are highly skiddish so it can take over a year to fully tame a pig. My 4-5 month rescues aren’t even close.
If you’re not doing all of this, which is the most basic maintenance, I’m not including a lot of stuff like teeth clipping, anal gland purging, special medications like antifungals they need. PleaSe contact me ASAP. If you truly love your animal,
You’ll realize you’ve made a mistake in choosing one that you don’t have the time or energy to fully give them everything they need. Maybe you don’t have the space. Maybe you don’t have the money. Whatever it is I’m not here to judge you at all! No matter what condition your
Pig is in when you bring him to me, or what conditions he’s been living in, I won’t judge! My job isn’t to bash people who simply weren’t given proper education, my job is to help the animals and educate people so they know for the future!
If you have a friend, and they have guinea pigs, and they’re not doing anything on this list at all, give them my number 2532826008. Im totally anonymous and not here to judge but to help! Our last foster really really tried to give her pig a good life but she had
Absolutely no idea what she was doing. I educated her on all the things pigs need to maintain and be happy. She felt so horrible she immediately asked me to take her pig. I had to remind her she was trying her best and the people at the petsmart gave her false information.
He was in a small cage outside and alone for several years. He had no access to hay (80% of their Diet Coke from hay) or veggies. The owners didn’t even know the gender and mistakenly I put him in our girls cage for the night. Luckily I was able to give him a health check,
He got groomed, his nails clipped, checked for cysts, genitals check, anal gland check, health shot (it’s basically a boost mixture that would give him all the vitamins he was low on, as well as help him gain rapid weight). His cage was cleaned and he got floor time.
After grooming him and posting pics we almost immediately found him a new mom who I highly praise as a very responsible pet owner. She listened to literally every single thing I told her, got all the correct supplies, and set up a adequate cage plus she rescued his cage mates
Within a week! If you’re not close with someone and you know their pigs are neglected, simply just ask “hey did you still want to keep those pigs? I have a friend who runs a foster system and she’s asking for more fosters! You’d be surprised. Most of the time people get excited.
They didn’t realize before at all all the maintenance guineas are, how loud they are, how dirty they are, they think they come instantly tame, and when the pigs aren’t, and are skiddish, people get frustrated and give up, and the pig ends up sitting ignored for sometimes weeks.
A lot of people don’t realize that they are hard work and require a lot of patience and time. They’re the best pets in my opinion. But many people neglect them and leave them in dirty cages for years and years. It’s heart breaking and totally preventable.
People especially like to buy them for their little kids. And then refuse to actually properly take care of them because it was supposed to be the kids jobs. GUINEA PIGS ARE NOT KID FRIENDLY. my future little sister in law is 9 and is not allowed alone with ours.
Guinea pigs should never be left alone with children under 12. And honestly the kind of care and maintenance they need is not something a child can handle. Kids can’t clip their nails, because guinea pigs, like dogs, have nerve endings in their nails. If you let a child clip
Their nails, they will most certainly clip the nerve which will be a very expensive vet visit. Or if you’re REALLY irresponsible you don’t take them to the vet, and it gets infected, and the pig dies a slow, agonizing death.
Children do not have the capability to follow the strict routine guineas need. The 3 weekly cleanings that need to be followed with thorough sanitation of the cage and hides and toys. The health checks. The feeding 10+ times a day. Replacing their water daily. The list goes on.
