How hard is it to be original on Twitter?

On first reading, this question sounds almost rhetorical

“Not hard at all, duh”

But it’s not

So let’s dig a little deeper...

<<<THREAD>>>
Let’s start off with an obvious one:

How easy is it to not copy peoples work word for word?

EXTREMELY EASY

If you do this, you’re a moron

You literally have a retweet button to share other people’s thoughts/expand on them https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🔁" title="Nach rechts und links zeigende Pfeile in offenem Kreis im Uhrzeigersinn" aria-label="Emoji: Nach rechts und links zeigende Pfeile in offenem Kreis im Uhrzeigersinn">

USE IT
Twitter is writing

Taking thoughts and putting them into words for the benefit of both others and yourself

Now let’s make something clear:

THESE THOUGHTS DON’T HAVE TO BE 100% YOUR OWN

In fact it’s almost impossible that they will be
There are SIX THOUSAND Tweets sent out PER SECOND

PER SECOND

Good luck trying to be ‘completely’ original

S/o @lawrencekingyo for the stat

Which he got from somewhere

He didn’t just PULL IT OUT OF HIS ASShttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🍑" title="Pfirsich" aria-label="Emoji: Pfirsich">

I think I’ve made my point
No?

Almost every thought you have

Every opinion

Every question

Every idea

Has been thought/said by somebody else

Don’t worry about trying to be 100% original

But at the same time, don’t become an exact clone of somebody else’s persona/copy their words exactly
If you’re here on money/fitness/self improvement Twitter - you’re here to LEARN

Most of us here want to improve ourselves physically, mentally, financially, spiritually

Therefore it’s inevitable that the same ideas will come up time and time again
The accounts you look up to? Their thoughts came from someone else, and so did the thoughts of those people

This is how we learn

Knowledge is passed from person to person

Luckily for us we live in the internet era where so much knowledge is available in your pocket
Now with so much knowledge so easily available for the first time

And in a corner which is focused on self improvement

It is absolutely inevitable that ideas will echo

The important thing ultimately is to BE YOURSELF
You don’t have to niche down and be hyper specific just for the sake of being ‘original’

BUT BE YOURSELF

If you’re interested in fitness, mindset etc

Speak about them

But don’t JUST talk about topics because you think they’re what will work
Some people have a way with words

Two people can often express the same idea but one will make it sound more intellectual

The other interpretation can come off almost as a platitude due to the simplicity in phrasing

There’s nothing wrong with this
If you’re offering value, great, just don’t become a platitude generator who’s here solely to grow and monetise anything they can

You’re here to learn, to grow

And this is largely in terms of your writing

Whatever your niche, writing is a huge part of twitter
You should feel PROUD and EXCITED to be expressing your thoughts

No, they most likely won’t be 100% original but no ones are

The pride is in learning

In expressing things for other people to then learn from you

And to REINFORCE these ideas in your own mind
This thread was (obviously) inspired by the whole debacle with @oliviercantin and ‘he who must not be named’

I hope some of you find value in this

Summary:

1. DON’T COPY WORD FOR WORD
2. Relax, no idea is 100% original
3. Take pride in your writing

4. You’re here to learn/teach others
5. Platitudes are just simplified expressions of more complex ideas, just don’t become a ‘platitude generator’
6. BE YOURSELF
