The focus has been on A* students losing their Oxbridge places, but from personal experience, I feel most sorry for the middling students whose C grades they've been denied was going to give them escape velocity to an average uni from a life & a town they can't wait to leave.

I know a bright-eyed, studious kid who wants to be a Cambridge nuclear physicist sells more newspapers, but what I feel most are the multiple little tragedies of some kid living in a boring grey town who hates every second of it who thought they'd be escaping & now won't be.
