This A Level situation is absolutely sickening
The fact that moderation is aggregated against class size, and most private schools have such small classes that they don't fit the algorithm so won't be moderated down is no 'accident of the system'. If private schools provided no privilege, people wouldn't pay for them
The stories arising of exceptional students (most frequently at state schools) missing their grades, despite stellar mocks/predicted grades is appalling. It appears there's almost no metric for adjustment beyond the government deciding certain schools should shift and others not
I'm not necessarily saying this whole A Level down-grading situation was a deliberate 'fixing' but even the fact that the algorithm is an 'oversight' that benefits the more fortunate tells you everything you need to know about the government's regard for poor people's education
A horrible, horrible situation https://twitter.com/lewis_goodall/status/1294031847719088128?s=20
