Hello! My name is Manasvi and I am taking part in the #GlobalScienceShow

Today I’ll be talking about Ernest Haeckel, My favourite science artist!

Next up is @shivaanisrini11 !

Bonus: I've attempted to replicate his artwork. It's a little something :)

@GlobalSciShow
Ernest Haeckel has discovered thousands species and has the coined the terms – ecology, stem cell & Phylogeny!
Does his name sounds familiar?
You may have studied his rather controversial evolutionary hypothesis called ‘recapitulation theory’. It states "Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny".
This phrase suggests that an organism's embryological development goes through adult stages of its evolutionary history. For chickens, the embryo would go: A single celled organism, a multi-celled invertebrate ancestor, a fish, a lizard-like reptile, an ancestral bird,
and finally, a baby chick. However, this has been disproved.

Do you think this is true?
Haeckel’s art is scientifically accurate and at the same time aesthetically pleasing. He created hundreds of detailed drawings, watercolour paintings, and sketches of his discoveries. From bats to the box jellyfish, lizards to lichen, and spider legs to sea anemones.
Haeckel emphasized the essential symmetries and order of nature, and found biological beauty in even the most unlikely of creatures.
In the year 1859, Darwin published his book on evolution- On the Origin of Species. It wasn’t a very popular book among the public as it was technical & had few illustrations. Haeckel managed to tackle this with his book on Darwin’s theory called ‘The History of Creation’ in 1876
This book is a meticulous visual encyclopaedia of living things. It became the main source of information on evolution before the First World War.
An artwork named Stephoidea impressed Charles Darwin immensely. He supposedly said, ‘This is one of the most magnificent works which I have ever seen.’
A beautiful video on Ernst haeckel’s artwork –
A little something that I made :)
