(1/3) The facts on #AlevelResults in NI are:

- More pupils recieving A*-C grades
- The number of U grades falling

It would be unfair to artificially inflate grades by 10% both because it brings into question the value of the qualification and disadvantages pupils next year.
(2/3) Teachers have historically always overestimated the performance of their pupils. I did so as a teacher.

This year, more students recieved grades in line with their teachers predictions than last year.
(3/3) As a former Chief Examiner, I have witnessed anomalies in results at first hand. As a teacher, I appealed many results on behalf of my students.

But recognising the difficulties of this year, CCEA have made the appeals process free. This is the right & fair approach.
