While I personally think there are parts of that series I would like to have not existed, I would disagree that it didn't teach them anything. I won't say that my opinion is the only correct one, so let me offer a new POV by listing some good things about AHL. https://twitter.com/koyation/status/1293964471963136000
1. They learned to look into the history of Hip-Hop.

When they first arrived and Coolio was quizzing them on Hip-Hop, there was actually a lot they didn't know, so he sent them around town on a mission to study, and by the time they finished, they came back more knowledgeable.
2. It taught them to think outside of the box.

There were missions that did help stimulate their creativity such as the missions where they were split into teams and had to create their own choreo using a foundation of popular dances. Or that time where in those same teams+
they had to create a song. That made them sit down and be serious with their work and experiment to see what they could come up with. The rapline also shared their wisdom with the vocal line to help them with song-writing since back then they didn't really have many credits yet.+
3. They got to meet legendary OG rappers and learn from them.

Feel how you want about Coolio, I won't judge you, but Warren G was definitely an inspiration to BTS, and to meet him in the flesh and have him show them where he grew up and just talk to him must have been great.
4. They got a taste of what it's like to work a minimum wage job.

The episode where they split up and took up different jobs wasn't just for entertainment, but it gave them an appreciation for the people who have to do it every day.
5. They gave back to the community.

All the money they earned from their jobs was used to buy food for the homeless in downtown L.A. and the homeless people there not only thanked them, but gave them good advice. And you can tell BTS took it to heart looking at how they are now.
6. Tae and JK improved their vocals.

The sessions they had with Iris Stevenson will always be heartwarming. She gave Tae a lot of positive feedback with his voice and she gave him tips on how to sing with a more soulful voice, which he CLEARLY does so well if you see his solos.+
On top of that, she encouraged JK a lot and taught him how to be more confident in his vocals. Within a few minutes of coaching, you could immediately hear a noticeable difference in his singing, and he gained enough confidence to access higher notes than he usually hits.+
JK loved Miss Iris. He said it himself. And that boy does not have a single dishonest bone in his body. You could tell he loved the lessons he gave her and also her presence. Even in later episodes, he would still talk about how much he missed her.
7. Most important of all, they were able to take all that they had learned and show it off at the end of the series.

If you're a veteran ARMY or watched Nobodies to Legends, you'd know that BTS once walked the streets of L.A. handing out flyers to their free concert in 2014.+
That free concert was the concert they held at the end of the series to show ARMYs everything they had learned in the two weeks they were there. That was a really important moment for them and for fans, and it was something that everyone cherishes.+
They even invited some of their mentors to come and see, and they were really proud of that concert. Especially with such a big turnout. Their tweets from that day still continue to circulate when BTS achieve something new, so it still is a special memory.
There are parts of AHL I agree could have been left out such as the kidnapping prank, and while that one dude did piss Yoongi off, he was never seen again after that one episode, so they probs kicked him out anyway. In terms of Coolio, I think he was really tough+
on them and could have definitely dialed it back, but overall, he ended up forming a connection with them and even rooted for them when they were nominated for the BBMAs for the very first time in 2017. So tbh, he doesn't bother me as much anymore.+ https://twitter.com/bangtanitl/status/844705614655881216?s=20
I think because he's normally tough like that and BTS isn't used to people with that type of blunt personality, you could see it very clearly in the first episodes because it was harder for them to mesh with him. But somehow, it turned out well.+
In short, two things can be true at once. AHL has some things that are good, but they also have things that are not so good. People can be mad about their tough bootcamp-esque treatment, but then again, the show is called American HUSTLE Life. It wasn't meant to be easy.+
The premise of the show was meant to be hard, and challenging, and at times maybe stressful, so like I said before, while there is stuff that I 100% believe should have just not been aired, I don't want to be too overprotective and sort of be like a helicopter parent.+
But different ARMYs have different definitions of "too much" so I don't want to say too much on that, though. HOWEVER, I do have an issue with saying "this show taught them nothing" and "they didn't learn sht". That, imo, is projecting because of two reasons.+
1) Those who say they learned nothing are probably saying that because they themselves (not BTS) don't believe the show had any benefits. 2) The free concert was literally a performance to show ARMYs what they learned. They wouldn't have done one if they didn't learn anything.+
So to be so clouded by anger to say that this show is fully bad, nothing good came from it, and that the boys didn't learn anything or make any happy memories I feel is reaching way too much. But that is MY opinion.+
For me, making a thread with such a hyperfocus on negativity does nothing but scare ARMYs into not watching it when it really isn't the terrible shtshow people make it out to be. Their past isn't something to run from. We should be proud of how far they've come since then.+
Yes, it can be cringey, yes it can be out of pocket, but there are some real hidden gems in that show, and like OP said, don't just take anybody's opinon for it on Twitter. Watch it on your own, do your OWN research, don't rely on your tl to tell you what to think.+
Anyway, this thread ended up being longer than I expected. Sorry for the rant. I just have a lot of things to say about AHL.
