Not just rural but all post offices and public libraries should be defended by anyone wanting to conserve the nation state. They are vital gathering places esp in country areas. (Yes they are much more important than wherever you code or whatever you do.) https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/why-we-should-love-the-post-office/
If there was list of things that conservatism in practice exists to conserve, post offices esp in rural areas - like old churches, war memorials, the ovals, local arts/crafts, allowing dogs in cafes, tweed as formalwear etc - would be at the top of the list. Not your 'freedom'.
Rural post offices are wonderful. Not a big one here for personal stories but when I was deployed 'over there', the Bowral post office was very good to my late parents, whose very helpful staff would help my parents post large 'care packages' for the benefit of me & esp my troops
Rural libraries are also wonderful. For students, they are an enormous help. For many older people, they are a reading as well as social service. For many who simply cannot afford or understand the Internet, library staff do a great job of helping people have access to 'the web'
Not sure what it is about liberalism - either its right or left variant - but it hates 'home' and the idea that some place (a post office, a library, an oval etc) may have some value to a community that cannot be priced into money. The liberal mind has no sense of 'mos maiorum'.
I do find it strange that the very same people here who go on, and on, about 'Norms' are the very same people whose true hymnal is an Ayn Rand or Hayekian tract, people whose commitment to destruction of diverse localities is simply less bloody than the bolshevik but as gruesome.
If you claim to be 'conservative', what, precisely, is it that you are actually conserving? Your faith? Your values? Your family? Your home? Your country? Your constitution (written or unwritten)? Quo Vadis?
A very sobering Machiavelli in The Discourses (Bk 1 Ch 17) on the limits of Caesarian correction. Hence my point about the danger posed by liberalism to the “Mos Maiorum”
