At any rate, the app touted a "Gender verification system", and curious, I wanted to know what that entailed.

It entails taking a photo, obviously from within the app, no uploading. The instructions request a passport style photo. No glasses, neutral face, hair pushed back.

I don't have the one I submitted, since it was all in app, but it was basically this.

I was validated. So, either the tech doesn't work, or I'm a woman.

I think both are true.
