It’s Friday! So do we have a dose of contrition and a sensible u-turn from government? We do not. Instead, they’re doubling down on the doubling down - by kicking teachers in the teeth.
A government “source” says in the Telegraph: "There are always people who do not get their predicted grades. People seem to be operating with the notion that everyone should just get what their teachers think they should have got."
Bloody teachers! The blob! "Do teachers really think this year's cohort at the top end is nearly twice as bright as previous years? It just doesn't stack up," the source close to Gavin Williamson says.
And this is quite a line. "It is the most blatant demonstration that teachers are not to be trusted on grading. Some is optimism – some is just playing the system."
Pointing to the potential for grade inflation the source added: "The whole point is to avoid what has happened in Scotland and France. No one will trust the Scottish 2020 results." Another said: "It's a matter of downgrading versus undermining."
Terrible politics this. What’s the theory - that students and parents will somehow forgive that an algorithm has downgraded their results because “teachers are not to be trusted”? The naivety is quite breathtaking.
