had a convo today abt remakes. i said remakes had to have passion, not b a cashgrab-- my dad came back w a fanmade passion project, a shot-for-shot remake of Psycho which BOMBED. it didnt have the magic. i realized there's another ingredient to a great remake: change. (1/?)
A great remake isn't a rehash of the original. it takes the elements of what came before it & reimagines them. passionate creators put their own spin on what they love abt it, AND fix the flaws of past iterations. they respect the source material w/out treating it as gospel (2/?)
imo thats the reason lots of live action remakes dont live up 2 hype. they're so stuck in the source that they forget that second ingredient. u gotta make it fresh for it to be great. if its stale, it can only ever be good, never Great. It doesn't have the magic. (3/?)
that change is important. thats why zelda is successful, & superhero comics, & star trek, etc. Passion + Fresh Takes give u a much higher chance of a remake excelling. Thats why lots of live action remakes are widely regarded as stale & paling in comparison 2 the original (4/?)
All this to say: thats what makes #RiseOfTheTMNT so great. Creators @Ward_Ant and @wolfboy74 weren't afraid of that key ingredient: change. A fresh take. Righting a few wrongs. That's why this show is so compelling & feels so fresh. they took the good & added their own spin.(5/?)
the reason rise feels so amazing is bc ant & andy didn't take prev. iterations as gospel. they made something fresh and new, paid homage to the old w/out drowning in it. Thats Why I Love #RiseOfTheTMNT. #ThankYouRiseCrew, for not being afraid of a little change. (6/6)
