#directionersareracist let's talk about this: a thread explaining why we need to speak up about it.

this fandom is so selective when it comes to activism. some of you only speak up on what the boys tweet about, but when it comes to other issues you stay completely silent. some of y'all trended san siro REAL QUICK but didn't say ANYTHING about gloria bambo.

some of your black moots have to beg you to speak up about it yet you speak over them. your selective activism also goes to indians whose culture has been constantly disrespected yet you seem to think its okay. it goes to the countries who are suffering yet you stay silent.

now, muslims are still being called terrorists. zayn has faced multiple islamophobic attacks from this fandom. there was even a point in time wherein some people said jamaica harry smelled like drugs. some of you continue to defend lottie despite blackface being a big issue.

racism towards asians is also rampant. asian fans have been called ching chong, ling ling, and many other names. and some of you speak up about blm but then make very rude, racist comments towards bts. bringing bts down is just as disrespectful as putting one of the boys down.

stop saying "not all directioners are racist" because it's invalidating to those who experience this racism first hand. STOP SPEAKING OVER THEM AND INSTEAD LISTEN.

just gonna add that there was a literal islamophobic song made about zayn being a terrorist, and there were pages being made about harry not loving his latinx fans. why don't you ask your poc moots how they feel about this instead of saying "not all directioners are racist".

i love this fandom, i really do, but this is something that needs to be addressed. our black, asian, poc moots are suffering and we need to do something about it. i myself am not white. we're known to have a huge impact, so use it for something good and important this time.

yes, i understand that racism is everywhere and that other fandoms have problems like this as well but i am addressing this for US. i hope to spread more awareness and educate so we can bring change starting from within our fandom. spread love and treat EVERYONE with kindness.

like i said, yes, maybe there are fandoms that are worse when it comes this. but please do not bring the kpop fandoms into this. i want to try and help OUR FANDOM. if we start change with ourselves we can inspire others to do the same.
