the common triggers + how to put trigger warnings! thread:
how to put trigger warnings!

the way to write them is ‘tw trigger’ or ‘tw // trigger’

DO NOT PUT
tw//trigger
tw //trigger
tw tr1gg3r
just tw without specifying the trigger
tw [abbreviated trigger]

all the above mean that the tweet will still show to people with triggers muted!
don’t use punctuation or fonts!

if you have multiple triggers in the trigger warning and want to use commas, write it as:

tw trigger , trigger2 , trigger 3

if you don’t put a space between the trigger and the comma, it still shows up even if the trigger has been muted
moving on to the common triggers. don’t read this if you have triggers

• death (sometimes specifically of a family member/pet/animal)
• rape
• paedophilia
• violence/murder
• homophobia
• transphobia
• racism
• sexism
• ableism
• slurs
• any kind of discrimination
• drugs
• alcohol
• smoking
• food and drink
• eating disorders
• self-harm
• suicide
• poor mental health/mental health in general
• sickness/illness (cancer is a big one)
• injury
• blood/gore
• sex/masturbation
• porn
• put a marker/warning for anything NSFW
if I’ve forgotten anything (wrong ways to write triggers, or any other common triggers) please please comment!
also, special reminder to PLEASE put trigger warnings in groupchats - muted words still show up in dms so it’s especially important!
do not censor the trigger in any way, so DO NOT WRITE

tw tr1gg3r (I know I already said that)
tw tr*gger

seriously, censoring it doesn’t help anyone. I know you have good intentions, but censored versions still show up even if people have the trigger word muted!
I know people are going to ask, so you should put trigger warnings because it makes sure that you don’t trigger someone, which could cause a panic attack or worse. example: if you talk about food/drink, it could make someone with an eating disorder relapse.
‘real life doesn’t come with trigger warnings!’ exactly, so make the life of people who have trauma easier by making sure they don’t have to see their triggers online. if people get triggered online, it stops being their safe place and makes life much harder for them.
exactly! if one of your moots asks you to put a trigger warning for something, PUT A TRIGGER WARNING FOR IT! why would you not?? https://twitter.com/toastrebel/status/1294102424391688193?s=21 https://twitter.com/toastrebel/status/1294102424391688193
unrelated, but put your pronouns in your bio! it helps normalise it so trans people aren’t targeted for it!

WRITE YOUR PRONOUNS FULLY AND CLEARLY (the various abbreviated versions can mean other things or are just unclear)

examples:
she/her
he/him
they/them
she/they
he/they
more common triggers
• the specific mental illnesses if you’re talking about them specifically

• loud noises/static/beeps
• flashing or flashing lights
• jumpscares
• domestic/sexual/emotional/physical/child abuse
• war/conflict
• incest
• periods
• pregnancy
• miscarriages
