It seems that Gatsby has made a response to the issues I and others have raised. Unfortunately it seems to be written in a strange language called "PR-ese". As a service to the Gatsby Community, I will offer my services to translate it to English. https://www.gatsbyjs.com/blog/open-letter-to-gatsby-community/
Our Heavily Vetted PR Statement To the Developers We Want to Do Stuff For Us For Free
"Fuck, we forgot to make her sign an NDA."
We've calculated that this will affect our bottom line, so we're making a PR statement and hoping you all forget about it.
We're two tech bros, so we thought that starting a company would be easy.
Sowwy we fucked up, we're trying 💜 it's hard running a business 🥺 (don't forget though, you're on NDA)
Ugh fine, here's a list of "action items", you're all going to forget this anyways.
We've hired or are hiring professionals who have more experience exploiting workers, waving away frustrations, and making sure things like this don't link.
We've found a "Diversity and Inclusion" firm to help us feel good about ourselves and won't make us do actual hard work.
We hope that by adding more bureaucracy we can make other people deal with leadership problems and scapegoat them when things go wrong.
Aw fuck, you're onto us.
Look we really need you to make free content for us, our whole business model hinges on it, please don't switch to Next 💜 Here we'll sit down and nod our heads (lol we won't do anything important though)
Look, we spent a lot of time figuring out how not to make you angry at us for doing this, and your still mad? geez, what do you people want?
This is a corporate statement, but if I say "this isn't a corporate statement" maybe it can convince you that we actually care about you. 💜
We're not actually trying to get rich! All this VC stuff is for *you*. Like, you know, that other critical JS developer infrastructure that took VC money to make a company and struggled to make a profit? That worked out well for them, right?
We've lured this delicious treat like an anglerfish in order to lock you in to our commercial platform.
We're creating more marketing avenues to make us look cool and hip, all while our executives profit off this "open source" grift.
