White scientists in #Academics4BlackLives: when we learn about systems of anti-Black oppression, do you find yourself developing alternative hypotheses for the causes of inequity? A practice we’re taught from day 1, but in this context can be used to rationalize white supremacy.
It can seem innocent - scientists are taught to think of *every* possible explanation, and then refute them one by one. But we can& #39;t ignore our implicit biases towards accepting a hypothesis that *doesn& #39;t* include white supremacy.
Full disclosure, I find myself doing this. Then I rationalize that I’m only thinking of those alternatives to develop counter-arguments in case someone *else* makes those claims. The fact they pop into my head at all is a problem. It& #39;s a journey.
