going to be a contrarian for a second and point out that healthcare plan changes aren't SAG-AFTRA's fault.
SAG-AFTRA's health plan is run through a labor management trust funded by employer contributions. with a wide swathe of the entertainment and creative industry shuttered, employer contributions have dried up.
so SAG-AFTRA isn't at fault, the loss of employer contributions without any additional revenue to shore up funds is at fault. which is exactly the same issue with multiemployer pension funds in industries that collapsed (like coal mining) and which struggle to remain solvent.
plan changes are necessary to keep the fund solvent. which is horrifying and terrible, and speaks to exactly why multiemployer trusts are a vulnerable model for providing benefits and why unions should support singlepayer. but it's not the union's fault either.
