Ok so here's my final thoughts on tonight's game and What It Means...
The great Argentine coach and believer in attacking football Cesar Luis Menotti famously talked of "right wing football" and "left wing football".
Right wing football "wants to suggest that life is struggle. It demands sacrifices. We have to become of steel and win by any method... obey and function, that's what those with power want from the players. That's how they create [slur], useful idiots that go with the system."
Left wing football, he believed, "celebrates intelligence and creativity and wants the game to be a festival".

We can all think of such sides who fit those templates. In fact we saw two tonight.
The trick of late capitalist football has been to co-opt "left wing football" for right wing ends. RB Leipzig's exciting, attacking style is the massive corporation posting black squares on instagram of football.
Diego Simeone, much more of the Carlos Bilardo (read: defensive, "right wing football") school of Argentine managers, is suddenly the left wing option. In light of capital appropriating the values of left-wing football, this "obey and function" mode is the only tool of resistance
Ultimately, aesthetics of football are just that. We ascribe moral values to styles of play but they're totally meaningless compared to, like, actual morals. The Red Bull corporation is exploiting the progressive values of attacking football to sell you more crap. The end.
